To kick off the new year, Social Change had the opportunity to headline the Freestyle Rap Battles at Live on Light Square on the 23rd January 2010. Shouts to Halde for organising the event. Big ups to everyone who was involved, and to all the freestyle emcees who entered the competition.

It was great to play this show. Mandles, Planz, Dialect, and all the other artists were super tight . The battle scene is very much still going strong and it is good to see people out there supporting. Thanks to everyone who came thru.

Butterthief is currently working on a new freestyle competition format, more to be announced soon.

On the 18th December 2009, Double or Nothing presented the Pagen Elypsis Mixtape launch. Featuring Headstrong Company, Pagen Elypsis, Social
Change, Evolve, DJ Sanchez & DJ PT this show was off the hook. Sanchez and PT held it down, and Evolve with guest Mids kicked ass. Social Change did their thing and Headstrong Company smashed it.

The Pagen Elypsis mixtape is a Battlehoggs release and has DJ Kansel and DJ Snair (Social Change) on the mix. The PE crew which is made up of Afore Mentioned, The Skeptics and Prime are crazy lyricists so check them out and get yaself a copy of their mixtape. The Pagen Elypsis album is dropping in 2010 so keep ya ears peeled.

04.12.09 – Thundamentals and Social Change at Jive

April 10, 2010

On the 4th December 2009 The Thundamentals (NSW) came thru Adelaide and played at Jive. Social Change was on support duty and the show was an honour to be involved in. Unfortunately due to the Cross Bred Mongrels album launch down the road at HQ there was a very small attendance. DJ Snair had fun performing at both events. For everyone else who was at the Thundas show, we all migrated to HQ after the gig.

For everyone that missed these guys, Thundamentals were super dope and rocked a tight as set. Next time they come thru Adelaide you gotta make sure you check em out. DJ Morgs,
DJ Tommy Fiasko,
MC Tuka and
MC Jeswon bring the heat with great beats and rhymes. If you are yet to check their music then peep their myspace at http://www.myspace.com/thundamentals

On the 3rd of December 2009 the inaugural Kick Kick Snare producers battle took place at Producers Bar, Electric Light Hotel. The event was hosted by 5-9 events and Social Change played a short set at the end of the night. The main event was the Producers Battle hosted by BDeps and judged by Simplex (Terra Firma), BVA (Mnemonic Ascent) and DJ Snair.

One Above of the Butterthief V.High.P crew took first place, narrowly beating fellow producer K21 to the prize. Social Change would like to congratulate all the beat makers who entered the battle and send a special shout out to One Above and K21. One Above produced the first track “So Fly” on the Social Change V.High.E.P and the “Start to Finish” remix on the Rugged Uncut Project by Dialect. More recently he has produced for Phat Chance on his Inkstains record.

Social Change is currently recording a track for the One Above production record, and One Above has also produced a track on the upcoming Social Change album.

April 10, 2010

The Headstrong Album launch was on the 31st October 2009. Such a dope gig to be a part of. Gotta thank the whole Crackhouse family for making it happen. The launch took place at Higher Ground, Adelaide. The event also doubled up as the launch for the new DJ Sanhez Mixtape. Hosted by 2Biz (Mindfield/Sukatash/Common Cause), with supports by Chris Bass, Social Change and DJ Sum-1 the show was straight up proper.

For anyone who hasn’t heard the Headstrong Company debut album yet you
gotta check it. Absolutely banging. It won the OzHipHop.com award for
best artwork as well. Peep that.

Thanks to everyone who came thru and showed love, the crowd was great. Shouts to all the artists who performed. Peace
