23.01.09 – Beach Road Hotel – K21 and Social Change
K21and Social Change hit Bondi Beach with Phatchance and Coptic Soldier, Drake and Johnny Utah, Fluent Form and friends on the 23rd January 2009. It was the second time Social Change, Funkwig and Snair had made the trip to the Beach Road Hotel in just over a month. The crew left Adelaide by car on the 21st and drove over night arriving in Sydney the next day. They hit up some all you can eat and then rolled back to brother Funkwigs joint in Erskinville and chilled for the evening.
The next day was hot as a motherfunker, and everyone hit up King Street, New Town for some lunch before vibing out the afternoon waiting for sound check. Met up with everyone at the hotel. Was cool kicking it for a bit. Got sound all organised and it was on. What up to Vanessa, Totto and Andreas. What up to Big Daddy Snair.!!!
The show was great, and the crowd was awesome especially considering the Big Day Out and the Cricket were on the same day in Sydney. DJ Snair spun tunes early on and Funkwig joined in on his sets for some improvised freestyle MPC goodness, and heads in the place responded. The MPC jams seemed to lift the energy in the venue. Ability held it down. Fluent Form had a complication with getting DJ and beats for the night so everyone was blessed with a freestyle set over jacked beats. Phatchance and Coptic soldier were impressive as were Drake and Johnny Utah.
Social Change and K21 shared their set and went back and forth one track after another. They went thru all the classics from the Greenhouse and V.High.E.P as well as a couple extras for good measure, such as Battlehoggs exclusives, Real, and a collaboration that is in the pipeworks. Funkwig and Snair came thru with the jams and the boys dropped acapellas and frees. Shouts to everyone involved in making this show possible, cheers to Bentley and Scott. Mad love to all the heads who connected. Keep doing ya thing.
Gonna have to fill you in on the play list for the car ride another time. It was massive and is going to take too long right now to go thru.
See ya again soon Sydney. Peace.
